Serax - Vase Earth - Beige - Recycled papier mâché - Designer Marie Michielssen; Serax Vase Beige Paper. Dimensions:Ø 20 x H 35 cm. An inordinate love for paper, as well as the desire to recycle materials, drove the Belgian artist, Marie Michielssen, to create a series of papier-mâché items. Adopting strange organic forms, the Earth dish is made from hand-modelled papier-mâché. This piece is halfway betweenart and design. The slightly irregular lines and bumps in the material are deliberately visible to communicate a hand-crafted feel and underline the object's raw attraction. The Earth collection showcases a primitive style that links past and present. The curved, soft lines break with our very strict, linear everyday environments. Marie Michielssen has a preference for materials that she can mould by hand. She allows herself to be guided by her intuition, to give shape to items with an atypical and poetic look. With Earth collection, I feel that my formal language gets ever closer to sculpture., explains Michielssen. The designer never starts by throwing down ideas on paper. No technical drawings or 3D models on the computer: she prefers to let the material express itself during the creative process by shaping it by hand. During the modelling process, I often play with primary shapes like cones, spheres and squares. I bring them together to create new shapes. For each design, there's a preliminary in-depth study of the shapes - everything is incredibly intuitive. PLEASE NOTE. Decorative vase: do not place in contact with water. Can house dried or artificial flowers
