Serax - Bowl Earth - White - Recycled papier mâché - Designer Marie Michielssen; Serax Bowl White Paper. Dimensions:Ø 45 x H 16 cm. Belgian artist Marie Michielssen's immoderate love of paper and her desire to recycle materials led her to create a series of papier-mâché objects. Adopting strange, primitive forms, the Bowl Earth is made from hand-modelled papier-mâché. This object is halfway between art and design. The slightly irregular lines and asperities of the material are deliberately visible, conveying a sense of craftsmanship and highlighting the raw aesthetics of this creation. The Earth collection has a primitive aesthetic that draws a link between the present and the past. The soft, curved lines break away from the strict, linear environments that make up our daily lives. This creation exudes a positive energy mixed with the sensuality of fluid, organic forms. The Earth Bowl is a unique Decoration element. Marie Michielssen has a predilection for materials she can shape by hand. She lets her intuition guide her, giving shape to objects with an atypical, poetic allure. With the Earth collection, I feel that my formal language is getting closer and closer to sculpture, explains Michielssen. The designer never starts by putting her ideas down on paper. No technical drawings or 3D computer models: she prefers to let the material express itself during the creative process by modeling it by hand. When modeling, I often play with primary shapes like a cone, a ball or a square. I bring them together to create new shapes. Each drawing is preceded by an in-depth study of the shapes, and everything happens very intuitively.
