The Mere Centrepiece was designed by Finnish studio Kaksikko. At the helm of this Scandinavian label are Salla Luhtasela and Wesley Walters, a creative duo who share a common interest in functional, understated forms that highlight the tactile qualities of each material. This sculptural centerpiece stems from a prototype made of Paper. The simple, round Ceramic shape is marked by a central fold that unfolds at the sides to form a Bowl. Raised by a discreet base, the form seems to float on the table, enhanced by the shadows it creates on the surface. Studio Kaksikko: ''We wanted Mere to be as much a humble, utilitarian object as an elegant, autonomous sculptural form, casting beautiful shadows when empty.'' Made in tactile Sandstone ceramic, the Mere centrepiece has been coated with a glossy glaze that enhances the shadows that form along the fold. This surface treatment makes the Bowl food-safe.
